SEO in Tajikistan: a step-by-step guide for your company website

Search engine optimisation is often pictured as picking magic keywords. In reality, it is work across several layers: technical set-up, content, local signals and site structure. Below is what business owners and marketers in Tajikistan should check.

Four features of SEO in the local market

  • Two languages. You often need Russian and Tajik versions — at separate URLs (for example, /ru/… and /tg/…) and linked with hreflang.
  • Query type. Questions such as “how to choose”, “how much does it cost”, “which is better” are answered by articles and guides. “Service + city” queries lead to commercial pages.
  • Trust. Real contact details, examples of work, reviews, information about the team, a coherent design.
  • Metrics. Indexing, visibility for target queries, snippet CTR, speed, enquiries from organic search.

Pages your website cannot do without

  1. Home page — who you are, what sets you apart, quick links to services, work and contacts.
  2. Services — a separate page for each area, following the pattern “client’s problem → how you solve it → proof → questions and answers”.
  3. Examples of work follow the logic “situation → task → solution → measurable outcome”.
  4. About us — mission, people, certificates and partnerships.
  5. Contacts — address, map, phone numbers, messengers, opening hours.
  6. Blog or knowledge base — groups of articles around customers’ most common questions.
  7. Prices and FAQ — budget guidelines and short answers to typical doubts.

Heading skeleton for a service page: H1 “service + city” → H2 “when you need it” → H2 “stages of work” → H2 “results” → H2 “cost and timing” → H2 “frequently asked questions”.

Maps and Google Business Profile

  • Company profile. A name without keyword stuffing, one primary category and two or three secondary ones, a description within the 750-character limit with a clear advantage.
  • Consistent data. Name, address and phone number (NAP) must match on the website, in the profile and in every directory.
  • Visuals. Photos of the entrance, the premises, the team; update them regularly.
  • Reviews. Reply to every one and ask customers to write in detail about exactly what they liked.
  • Posts. News, promotions, answers to frequent questions.
  • Pages for districts or cities — only when necessary, and with unique text and a map.

Content and internal links

  • Topic clusters. Pick out a few major areas and prepare a series of articles for each: guides, comparisons, checklists.
  • Headings that match queries. Instead of a faceless “General information”, try, for example, “How to choose ___ in Dushanbe: a short checklist”.
  • Meaningful links. A few relevant in-text links to services and related articles, plus a “Read also” block at the end.
  • Snippets. Keep the Title within 60–65 characters and the Description up to 150–160; include the key query and the benefit in both.
  • Structured data. Organization or LocalBusiness, BreadcrumbList, Article and FAQPage make search results more informative.

Technical basics: what to check

Indexing. robots.txt allows the sections you need and blocks the service ones. An up-to-date sitemap.xml has been submitted in the webmaster tools, canonical URLs are set up, and there are no duplicates or empty pages.

Speed and usability. Core Web Vitals benchmarks: LCP under 2.5 s, CLS under 0.1, INP no more than 200 ms. Images in WebP or AVIF with lazy-load, critical CSS.

Language versions. The Russian and Tajik versions have their own URLs and correct hreflang pairs. The translation has been proofread rather than left as machine output.

Reliability. HTTPS with a valid certificate, 301 redirects from old URLs without long chains, clear 404 and 5xx error pages with a link back.

Analytics. GA4 with events for forms, chats, calls, WhatsApp and Telegram; for phone calls, call tracking with number substitution and offline conversions uploaded from the CRM; tidy UTM tags in every campaign.

An eight-week plan

Weeks 1–2: technical audit, speed improvements, robots and sitemap, basic structured data, setting up a Google profile.
Weeks 3–4: new or updated pages for key services, contacts, examples of work.
Weeks 5–6: two topic clusters in the blog, FAQ, internal linking.
Weeks 7–8: local pages if needed, refining snippets, a report on visibility, CTR and enquiries.

Where people most often go wrong

  • All services on one page — the search engine cannot tell which query to show it for.
  • The Russian and Tajik versions are machine-translated and not linked with hreflang.
  • The “About us” and “Contacts” sections are nearly empty, with no real details or photos.
  • The home page is overloaded with uncompressed banners, animation and heavy scripts.
  • Relying on the blog alone while the commercial pages are weak.
