Search queries in Tajikistan come in two languages: some people search for “flower delivery Dushanbe” in Russian, others type the same thing in Tajik. Advertising in one language, or mixing both in one campaign, means losing part of the audience or muddling your reports. Below is a step-by-step checklist: how to set up the account, write ads, prepare landing pages, configure tracking and get through the first month of optimisation.
Account structure and keywords
Brand separate from everything else
- Put queries containing your company name into a campaign of their own.
- Group non-brand queries by product and service clusters.
- Report on Brand and Non-Brand separately so that brand traffic doesn’t flatter the overall picture.
Geography and language
- Create separate campaigns for Russian (RU) and Tajik (TG).
- Set geotargeting precisely: Dushanbe, Khujand or other regions; exclude areas you don’t deliver to.
Keywords
- Prepare parallel lists in both languages, including synonyms.
- Account for word forms (cases, singular and plural) as well as typos and colloquial variants.
- Build negative keyword lists for both languages: “free”, “vacancies”, “jobs” and the like.
Ad groups and match types
- Each ad group serves one user intent.
- Start with exact and phrase match for control. Add broad match only together with automated bidding strategies and after you’ve cleaned up search terms.
Ads in two languages
Responsive search ads (RSA)
- Separate ads for RU and TG. Don’t combine languages in one text.
- Upload enough headlines and descriptions, and pin one or two main headlines so the key message always shows.
- Add assets: sitelinks, callouts, structured snippets, a phone number.
What to adapt in the copy
- Tone: simple and lively, with benefits and figures up front.
- Wording: write the way Tajik-speaking audiences actually talk rather than translating a Russian phrase word for word.
- Prices and promo codes must match in both versions.
A hypothetical example in Russian
- Headlines: “Laptop repair in Dushanbe”, “Free diagnostics”, “Work guaranteed” («Ремонт ноутбуков в Душанбе», «Диагностика бесплатно», «Гарантия на работу»).
- Description: “Submit a request online and a specialist will call you back. Pay after the repair” («Оставьте заявку онлайн — специалист перезвонит. Оплата после ремонта»).
The same example in Tajik
- Headlines: «Таъмири ноутбук дар Душанбе», «Ташхис ройгон», «Кафолат барои кор» (laptop repair in Dushanbe, free diagnostics, work guaranteed).
- Description: «Онлайн дархост гузоред — мутахассис ба шумо занг мезанад. Пардохт баъд аз таъмир» (submit a request online and a specialist will call you; pay after the repair).
Prepare short versions for mobile and test different hooks.
Landing pages
- Two language versions. Separate URLs such as /ru/… and /tg/… are the most convenient: they’re easier to analyse and test.
- Match with the ad. The user’s query should be reflected in the headline of the first screen.
- Enquiry form. A minimum of fields, the form language matching the query language, a phone mask for the local format.
- Loading speed. Aim for an LCP of under 2.5 seconds, use WebP and don’t overload the page with scripts.
- Arguments. Price, delivery terms, guarantees and reviews on the first screen.
Tracking: UTM tags and conversions
Consistent link tagging
?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign={campaign}&utm_content={adgroup}|{lang}&utm_term={keyword}
- The {lang} parameter with the value ru or tg is mandatory: without it you can’t separate the language versions in analytics.
- Mark brand and non-brand with a label in the campaign name (brand / nbrand).
What counts as a conversion
- GA4 events: form submission, click on the phone number, going to WhatsApp or Telegram, purchase.
- Dynamic number insertion (DNI), so you know where calls came from.
- Importing offline conversions from the CRM: paid and closed deals.
Optimisation plan for the first month
Week 1. Launch and checks. Make sure all clusters are getting impressions and clicks. Clean up search terms and add negative keywords in both languages. Run two RSA variants in each ad group.
Week 2. Bids and copy. Once the campaign has accumulated enough conversions, switch to the Maximize Conversions strategy. Adjust bids by device, district and time of day. Replace weak headlines based on the Asset Performance report.
Week 3. Landing pages and assets. Test the first screen (headline, offer, button) on both language versions. Add price and promotion assets and, if needed, lead forms.
Week 4. Scaling. Shift budget to the clusters with the best CPL and CAC. Test broad match in the strongest ad groups. Add remarketing and Customer Match based on customer lists.
Target CTR and conversion rates depend heavily on the niche and language, so set benchmarks based on data from the first weeks of your own campaign. And respond to enquiries as quickly as possible: the longer a person waits, the more each sale costs.
The most common mistakes
- Two languages in one ad. Quality Score drops. Keep RU and TG separate.
- One landing page for all queries. Relevance and conversion are low. You need topic-specific and language-specific versions.
- No Tajik negative keywords. Irrelevant traffic gets into the campaign. Clean up search terms weekly in both languages.
- Advertising isn’t linked to the CRM. It’s unclear which enquiries turned into sales. Import offline conversions.
- The attribution window is left at the default. Periods are hard to compare. Fix the rules in your report.
