Not long ago, online promotion seemed to be the domain of big chains and international brands. Now bakeries, tailors, car repair shops and language schools are actively going onto Instagram and YouTube. Competition for attention is growing, and simply setting up a page is no longer enough. Below are five directions that companies in Tajikistan should build on.
1. A company face instead of a logo
Brands are hiding behind their logos less and less. Customers are more willing to trust a real person than a faceless sign.
Increasingly, it is not an abstract “business account” that talks about the business on social media but the founder in person: how they cook, see clients, repair equipment.
Formats that help:
- first-person stories;
- short videos about what goes on behind the scenes;
- live streams with candid answers to questions.
Picture a smartphone repair technician who films himself replacing a screen and answers followers’ questions in his videos. Over time, the people who come to him are not random passers-by but those who have already seen his work and trust him.
2. “Near me” search
People increasingly search for services tied to a location: “barbershop near me”, “wedding restaurant in Dushanbe”, “plov delivery”. Anyone who doesn’t show up for such searches loses customers who are ready to buy.
Where to start:
- register your company on Google Maps;
- add location tags to your Instagram posts;
- optimise your website pages for phrases like “in Dushanbe”, “in Khujand” and other cities;
- regularly ask customers to leave a review.
A technical point: add LocalBusiness structured data to your website — it helps Google display your company details correctly.
3. Short video as the main format
Audience attention spans have shrunk, and vertical videos have become the common language of social media. Carpets, cakes, legal advice — it doesn’t matter what you sell: without Reels and Shorts, a brand drops out of the feed.
What people like to watch:
- clips of the work process with a voice-over;
- short answers to customers’ frequent questions;
- “before and after” comparisons: renovations, hairstyles, make-up, interiors.
A successful video picked up by the algorithm can noticeably boost the flow of enquiries, so it is worth filming regularly rather than now and then.
4. Design that inspires trust
The first impression is formed before any conversation begins. Template design, a feed with no idea behind it and dark, blurry photos put people off before they even learn about your offer.
A social media profile works like a shop window: people judge everything else by it.
What to pay attention to:
| Profile element | How to improve it |
|---|---|
| Profile picture | a logo or a face — high-contrast and easy to recognise |
| Feed | consistent colours, fonts and formats |
| Story highlights | clear covers and captions: “Reviews”, “Prices”, “How we work” |
| Reels covers | bright, with short text, so people want to open them |
Tip: Canva or Figma work well for design — both services have free plans.
5. Usefulness instead of self-praise
Phrases like “high quality, reliability, guarantee” stopped catching anyone’s eye long ago. Audiences scroll past them without reading.
What works better:
- customer stories;
- detailed breakdowns of real problems;
- answers to the most frequently asked questions;
- “before and after” results;
- advice such as “five mistakes when choosing an air conditioner” instead of “we have the best air conditioners”.
When content helps rather than persuades, trust comes without extra effort.
What to do next
If your company is not yet promoting itself online, now is a good time to start. If it is, check yourself against this list: personal brand, local search, short videos, well-thought-out design, useful content. Gaps in any of these points are opportunities for growth.
