SMM in Tajikistan: Strategy, Content Pillars and Brand Voice

SMM in Tajikistan: Strategy, Content Pillars and Brand Voice

An account that posts every day without a plan is like a radio playing in an empty room. A working SMM strategy for Tajikistan answers four questions: who you are writing for, where those people spend their time, what voice to speak to them in and which numbers tell you things are on track. Below is a working framework you can adapt to your brand.

Step one: people and platforms

Start with segments. Two or three groups are usually enough, for example students and young people, young families, and more considered older buyers. For each, describe the main problem your product solves, their favourite content format and their language: Russian, Tajik or both.

Then assign roles to the platforms:

  • Instagram: the face of the brand, with Reels, Stories and carousels.
  • YouTube: reviews, how-tos and Shorts.
  • Telegram: news, promotions and quick contact with support.
  • TikTok: lively, informal videos, if your audience is active there.

For frequency, aim for several feed posts a week plus regular Stories. But if you have to choose between quantity and quality, choose quality.

The content pillars that make up your content plan

Regular content pillars spare you the question “what shall we post today?”. Here’s a set from which it’s easy to build a month:

PillarWhat it isHow often
Product demoA short video: how it worksTwice a week
30-second tipOne life hack or how-to in Reels/Shorts1–2 times a week
Before and afterA visible resultOnce a week
Customer voiceReviews and content from buyersOnce a week
Q&AThe three most frequent questionsOnce a week
Calendar momentsNavruz, the start of the school year, local holidaysAs per the calendar
Behind the scenesThe team, production, the processTwice a month
Honest comparisonHow the options differTwice a month
Partners and communityJoint posts, local initiativesTwice a month
ServiceHow to solve a problem quickly, contactsOnce a month and pinned
Big guideA how-to carousel on a popular topicTwice a month
InteractivePolls and quizzes in StoriesEvery week

A common rule of thumb is 70/20/10: most of the feed is useful or entertaining, around a fifth is reviews and proof, and only a small share is direct selling.

How the brand sounds

A good voice for a local audience is friendly, specific and respectful. Short sentences, action verbs, no waffle.

We say: “We’ll pick it out and deliver it today”, “Discount with a promo code until Friday”, “Three steps and you’re done”.

We don’t say: empty superlatives like “the best on the market”, bureaucratic phrasing like “the provision of services is carried out”, or jargon without explanation.

Keep calls to action short: “Send us a DM”, “Book a consultation”, “Save this post”. Rather than running two separate accounts in different languages, it’s more convenient to give the main headlines and subtitles in both Russian and Tajik at once.

The numbers that tell you how you’re doing

Attention: reach and impressions; VTR = completed views / impressions; retention at the 3rd and 10th second (if viewers leave straight away, change the opening of the video).

Engagement: ER by reach = (likes + comments + saves + shares) / reach × 100%; save rate = saves / reach × 100%, the best indicator of usefulness; share rate = shares / views.

Clicks and enquiries: CTR = link clicks / views, CVR on the landing page, and CPL and CAC from social media.

Compile a report once a week, separating Reels, carousels and Stories, as well as branded and non-branded content. Each report should lead to two or three hypotheses for the following week.

Mistakes that hold an account back

  • A feed made up entirely of ads: followers stop noticing it.
  • Videos without a script or a strong opening.
  • Lots of text on images instead of a short, large phrase.
  • Videos without subtitles, even though many people watch with the sound off.
  • One language for all segments.
  • Reports based on averages without breaking them down by format, topic and language.
  • No regular A/B tests of video openings, length and calls to action.

A weekly template

Monday: a Reel with a tip and a poll in Stories. Wednesday: a guide carousel, added to Highlights. Friday: a product demo and a customer review in Stories. Sunday: a round-up of the week and a question to followers about what to cover next. Repeat the cycle for four weeks, then review it based on the results.
